Pictures are worth a 1000 words right? That picture pretty much sums me up :) And based off that comic I would like to think I am your average 20 30-something year-old, clinical psychologist. One who secretly waits to open up a cupcakery or even just a bakery, as I love all treats.
Until then, this is me :) ............................yup...........the big dork...........................HI :)
I grew up in Valencia, California--I am definitely a So Cal girl. Which just means I love saying "Oh my gosh! and O-M-Geee" (I know..don't judge me ;), have LA justified road rage and drive like a maniac (as my hubby likes to say...I like to say I am a woman on a mission that handles no tomfoolery on the road....you read right..I just used the phrase tomfoolery..I had to! It sounds so fun).
I went to UCLA and majored in Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology and Political Science- boooooring...I know BUT while there I worked at an Early Education Center, was a nanny and mentored adolescents. I just fell in love with working with youth. Yes- I am one of those sappy women who just adore kids! So I decided, after four years and getting ready to graduate-- that I wanted to become a child clinical psychologist (i.e., Bye-Bye molecular bio...hello "and how do you feel about that.." :).
That decision led me to Texas, working at Texas Children’s Hospital. Moving from California to Texas was absolutely tragic. I mean really-- La La land, the place of wonderful weather and even better shopping to Tejas ;)....land of heat and big belt buckles (though I am a sucker for cowboys...hats, accents, rodeos and all. Oh and I love the word y'all, it's just so natural :).
Living away from my family and best friends was a really hard transition for me so I decided to distract myself by getting my masters degree in behavioral psychology (I mean....everyone does that right? Completely normal...okay, I admit it, I am a closet nerd..without the closet....ok...I am a raging nerd) and getting out of Texas ASAP. My plan did not work out so well because I met, fell in love with and married my best friend and love of my life (the hubby....my Cajun Country Boy ;). Click here to read about how I met and began dating the hubby or here, to read about how the hubby stuck his foot in his mouth :)
The hubby and I tied the knot on June 30th, 2012. I needed to learn to cook for two- which has brought new and exciting challenges- particularly in learning to make "Non-dessert" recipes; because my hubby is a weirdo and believes that one should eat veggies and that there is such a thing as too much chocolate?!? (I KNOW, do not even get me started). And so I decided to start a blog.
When I first moved to grad school, I was about 2 hours away from the hubby (the fiance then). Since moving away from the hubby was really hard for me, he got me the other love of my life. My fur baby- Ninja (or as I call him Ninja face). I absolutely adore him (hands down...OBSESSED)! He makes wrinkles look so good! He is a 6 year-old Chinese Shar-Pei who is just like his mommy. He loves sleeping and food. Every time I bake, he stalks the kitchen, just waiting to jump if I drop anything :) He is definitely a mama's boy! I mean seriously...LOOK-AT-THAT-FACE!
At first I created my blog as way to share recipes with my sister. But it really became my little internet home :) As I began blogging, I realized my take on food is simplicity! I am busy and I have no doubt that you all too- so I want baking and cooking to be beautiful and delicious yet easy and approachable!
And a few more tidbits about me: I am a clean freak (an evening of cleaning and organizing is fun for me). I LOVE food- especially sushi and chocolate (let's be honest...ALL desserts). I love spending time with family and friends. I am outgoing and friendly but I enjoy staying home and watching reality television. I love romantic comedies (which totally includes Lifeime movies:), laughing till I can't breathe, sweet moments, sleeping for hours, and sprinkles! And most of all baking and blogging :)
Also I LOVE to travel-- which is hard when you are busy with school and are not making bunches, but when I do, I will also post reviews of different cupcakeries that I have visited. Whenever I travel, I try my best to go to cupcakaries. I mean, any justification to eat cupcakes (not that I need any)...but hey...now I have an excuse ;)
You look really familiar... Do you (or did you ever) have a cooking show?
ReplyDeleteHello! Hopefully familiar in a good way ;) I totally wish but I do not have (and never had) a cooking show--or anything on TV. The thought of a cooking show sounds amazing!!! Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteChika, Love your blog!! You are a very talented person. I only found this site last week, so haven't made anything yet, but plan on it. I have been enjoying reading about you, your hubby and your reviews. Diana
ReplyDeleteHi! Thank you so much! That was very sweet of you to say! I hope you have a fun time making recipes from my bog! I try to make everything approachable (unless I saw otherwise)! So glad your enjoying the read! And I'd love to hear from you in the future :)
DeleteWow, you are an awesome woman! I came across a Ritz Chicken recipe on Pinterest (because my mama and I were in dire need of a fresh take on dinner ideas) clicked on the website and stumbled upon your blog... and I am sure glad I did because I meanandered over to your "about me" section. Let me tell you, I enjoyed every word. You had me laughing through and through. You seem like you would be a wonderful person to hang out with :) best of luck as you complete your Master's!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! Did you and your mom enjoy the recipe? I love that you love my sense of humor because you know I think I am hilarious ;) my hubby might beg to differ. You are too sweet-- and totally made my day :) thanks so much for the well wishes! I got my master's but have chosen to stay to get my doctorate so ill take all the luck I can get!
DeleteLove, love yr Blog!!! I am too a Southern Cal Gal living in Texas!!!! Also, I love, love working with young children have my Masters and in a Docterate program!!! But my question to you is where did you get yr SCWHD tank from??? I have to get one!!!! Making your Pumpkin Spice Pudding cookies right now to take to my grandsons LL Baseball game width hot chocolate tonight. You have the cutest four legged child ever!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI Renee! YAY, I am so glad to hear that you love my blog! And how awesome that you too are a So Cal girl living in Texas! Glad to hear I am not the only one! And on top of that you also work with young children, have a masters and am in a doctorate program?!? We must be twins ;) LOVE IT! By "SCHWD tank" -- your meaning my sequin top? I'm guessing and can be totally wrong. That top is part of my wedding-reception lengha. A traditional wear worn by South Asians. You can find it in any Indian clothing store, but you may have to buy the whole set (i.e., top and skirt). I love, love Indian clothes ;) Let me know how the pumpkin spice pudding cookies turn out! I hope your grandson loves it -- and who wouldn't with a side of hot chocolate?! And I'll pass on the compliments to Ninja (because I totally agree ;). Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving such a sweet comment!
ReplyDeleteYou, your zest for life, and your blog are the BEST!! I stumbled upon your blog through a post I saw on Pinterest and am so glad I did!! I have literally been looking at every one of your recipes and reading all of your posts!! When I saw one of the cake recipes and the Cafe Eccell sign, I realized you are in College Station!! The only reason I knew this was because I am also!! It makes my heart happy to know that someone appreciates cupcakes as much as I do!! For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to own a bakery and "specialize" in cupcakes. It is definitely a pipe dream, but nothing ventured, nothing gained!! Anyway, I will stop rambling!! I just wanted you to know how great you are and how much I appreciate the happiness, passion, and energy you have for life!!
ReplyDeletePart of something greater: Awwwwwwwwwww! How sweet was your note....incredible sweet!!!! YAY! Someone else from my neck of the woods ;) Isn't it sad that Cafe Eccell closed down :( I loved that place! I always love meeting another person who appreciates and enjoys cupcakes and bakeries as much as I do toooooo! Its so fun! I have the same pipe dream, but you never know, maybe one day we will have the guts to do it!
ReplyDeleteTotally not rambling. And absolutely sweet as can be comment! Thank you so much for stopping by! That totally made me smile! And I am so sorry for being late....grad school sometimes (and by sometimes, always) sucks me away, but I will always come back :)
